To achieve the highest levels of teaching excellence in South Carolina, the University Center of Greenville is partnering with the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and the South Carolina Foundation for Higher Education to form the South Carolina Teaching Excellence Network (SCTEN). SCTEN links instructors in public and private colleges and universities to resources for improving their teaching effectiveness.

Initiated in December 2007, the newly established network assists participants from two-and four-year institutions. Bringing together a state-wide program benefits not only the members of the SCTEN, but the quality and effectiveness of higher education in South Carolina as a whole. The network is open to any instructor nominated by a Commission licensed institution of higher education.

SCTEN recently hosted the 2008 Summer Institute for Teaching and Learning at Furman University. The event set a precedent for helping higher-education faculty of every discipline become more-effective instructors. More than 30 educators from across the state joined to participate in workshops and individual consultations during the event. Topics ranged from course development to grading methods.
